Burlington County Veterans Expo Returning to Rowan College at Burlington County on October 6

One of the largest veterans’ service events in South Jersey returns to Burington County next week.

The Burlington County Veterans Expo will be held on Tuesday, October 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rowan College at Burlington County’s Student Success Center (1500 College Circle, Mount Laurel). Organized by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office, the free event features dozens of government agencies, nonprofits, and service providers with information about available resources, benefits, and support services for veterans and their families.

Complimentary meals, tote bags, medical screenings, and veteran identification cards will also be available.

“Burlington County is home to more than 25,000 veterans and we want them and their families to know about the services that are available to assist them,” said Burlington County Sheriff James Kostoplis. “The Veterans Expo brings numerous agencies, nonprofits, and providers to a single location so veterans can get information and answers to their questions without a long search or wait. These men and women served and sacrificed for our nation. The Expo is a way to say thank you and offer them assistance.”

“Burlington County can never fully repay our county’s veterans for their military service, but we take great pride in making them feel welcome here and letting them know their service to our country is appreciated,” added Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo, liaison to the County Department of Human Services and the Office of Veterans Services. “The Veterans Expo is a great opportunity for veterans to learn about resources and connect with agencies and organizations that can help them obtain the support and benefits they earned.”

This is the 7th Veterans Expo organized by the Sheriff’s Office. The first expo was held in 2018, and there was a two year pause during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 before the Sheriff’s Office brought it back in 2022 and every year since.

The event is modeled after the Senior Expo, which is also organized by the Sheriff’s Office each spring.

Among the free services that will be offered at the expo are veteran identification cards issued by the Sheriff’s Office. Any veteran who was honorably discharged from service is eligible to receive an ID card, which can be used by veterans to receive certain discounts or courtesies offered by businesses and governments to veterans.

Veterans interested in obtaining an ID card should bring their DD214 document and another form of photo identification to the expo.

The Burlington County Clerk’s Office will also have staff at the expo to assist veterans with multiple services, including its DD214 registration program. The free service is available to any Burlington County veteran. Under the program, certified copies of a veteran’s discharge papers are kept by the Clerk’s Office for whenever a veteran or a member of their family might need it. The records remain private and will not be released without the consent of the veteran or an authorized family member.

“The DD214 registration is a fast and simple process that ensures that if the original paper is ever lost, veterans won’t need to navigate any complicated red tape to get another copy from the Department of Defense,” said Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz. “It’s a program we’re proud to offer veterans.”

Staff from the Burlington County Department of Human Services and Office of Veterans Services will also have a table at the expo to share information about casework assistance and many of the other Burlington County services available for veterans and active-duty and reserve service members. So far this year, the office has assisted mot than 20,000 veterans obtain more than $8.7 million in compensation and benefits.

Some of the other County services available for veterans include free pet adoptions from the Burlington County Animal Shelter, military service medals for veterans or surviving family members, and a cemetery care program for veterans’ grave sites.
