MANITOU SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Tea, Tonic & Toxin, the mystery book club and podcast dedicated to exploring the history of mystery fiction, has launched Stay Mysterious, a new series of short, spoiler-free episodes designed to introduce readers and listeners to some of the greatest mysteries and thrillers ever written.

Hosted by Carolyn Daughters and Sarah Harrison, Stay Mysterious offers a fresh way to discover classic crime fiction. Each approximately 20-minute episode explores a remarkable book, its author, its place in literary history, and what makes it worth reading—all without revealing the twists, surprises, or ending.

The new series complements Tea, Tonic & Toxin's longer, in-depth podcast discussions, which explore the books in greater detail and include spoilers. Stay Mysterious invites newcomers to discover a book before reading it, while giving longtime fans another way to engage with the stories and authors they love.

"We love digging into the details of a great mystery, but we also recognize that not everyone has read the book we're discussing," said cohost Carolyn Daughters. "Stay Mysterious gives us the chance to reach people before they pick up one of the mysteries we're discussing. We want listeners to finish an episode thinking, 'That sounds amazing. I absolutely have to read it.' And once they've read it, we hope they'll come back for our longer conversations."

Rediscovering the Books That Changed Mystery Fiction

The inaugural Stay Mysterious episode features The Moving Toyshop (1946) by Edmund Crispin, a witty, inventive Golden Age mystery celebrated for its eccentric characters, literary humor, and ingenious plotting.

Additional Stay Mysterious episodes will explore The Ministry of Fear (1943) by Graham Greene, Death Comes as the End (1944) by Agatha Christie, The Horizontal Man (1946) by Helen Eustis, and The Big Clock (1946) by Kenneth Fearing.

These books are part of Tea, Tonic & Toxin's carefully curated 2026 reading list, which features 12 influential mysteries and thrillers published between 1943 and 1948.

"One of the great pleasures of reading these books chronologically is seeing how the genre changes over time," said cohost Sarah Harrison. "We see familiar authors, discover remarkable writers whose work deserves renewed attention, and find connections between books that might otherwise seem unrelated. With Stay Mysterious, we can share some of those discoveries without giving away the very things that make the books so enjoyable."

The series also advances the podcast's mission to reintroduce readers to talented but sometimes overlooked mystery writers, including Helen Eustis, Dorothy B. Hughes, Elisabeth Sanxay Holding, Craig Rice, Kenneth Fearing, and Christianna Brand.

A Different Kind of Mystery Book Club

Since launching in 2022, Tea, Tonic & Toxin has taken an unusual approach to mystery fiction: reading and discussing exceptional mysteries and thrillers in chronological order, beginning with Edgar Allan Poe's groundbreaking 1841 story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue."

Rather than focusing exclusively on contemporary bestsellers or familiar Golden Age authors, Daughters and Harrison explore how detective fiction, psychological suspense, hardboiled crime fiction, and thrillers have evolved over nearly two centuries.

The podcast has produced more than 100 episodes, featuring thoughtful literary discussions and interviews with acclaimed authors, scholars, editors, and other experts. Past guests include David Morrell, Kathy Reichs, Craig Johnson, Arvind Ethan David, David Ignatius, Julie Rivett, Otto Penzler, and Mike Ripley.

The hosts are known for their extensive research, close reading, and conversational approach to discussing books. Their interviews often explore not only a novel's plot and characters but also the author's influences, literary innovations, and lasting contributions to the genre.

Stay Mysterious brings that same curiosity and enthusiasm to a shorter, more accessible format.

Two Ways to Enjoy the Mystery

With the introduction of Stay Mysterious, listeners can choose how deeply they want to explore a book.

Those who haven't read it can begin with a spoiler-free introduction, discover what makes the story compelling, and decide whether to add it to their reading list. Those who have already read the book can enjoy Tea, Tonic & Toxin's longer, spoiler-filled discussions, which examine characters, themes, plot developments, and literary significance.

Together, the two formats create a more welcoming experience for both seasoned mystery enthusiasts and readers who are just beginning to explore the genre's rich history.

Stay Mysterious episodes are available through Tea, Tonic & Toxin's website and major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Mystery and thriller fans can subscribe so they never miss an episode and join the Tea, Tonic & Toxin online community.
